GCSE English that actually works — even if your teen is stuck at a Grade 3 or 4 and hates writing.
Designed for struggling students, anxious parents, teens who’ve lost confidence in English and those students who are aiming high and need strategy and structure.
😩 The Truth Is…..
Most Teens Hate English and Most Parents Feel Alone Trying to Help.
You know your teen is capable — but English has become a battleground.
📚 They used to enjoy English.
Now they dread it.
📝 Written work keeps coming back at the same disappointing grade, no matter how hard they try.
⏰ They freeze in exams.
🧠 Panic at the blank page.
✍️ Write lots… and still miss the marks or don't know how to write with enough depth and detail.
👩🏫 Teachers keep changing.
📉 Feedback is vague.
🔊 Classrooms are noisy, rushed, and overwhelming.
And you?
You’re left trying to help
but the mark schemes make no sense,🙅♂️ and your teen won’t let you near their writing.
This isn’t just about a grade.
It’s about their confidence.
Their motivation.
Their future.
And the pressure is building. 🚨
Maybe they have ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety — or just a massive block around English.
Maybe they’re bright but slow, capable but lost, willing but stuck.
Maybe they feel like the only one who hasn’t cracked it yet.
💔 You are not imagining it.
GCSE English is overwhelming.
Confusing.
And let’s be honest — often badly taught.
You’re not failing them.
But the system is.
Janine Rhind
30+ years in education. ADHD-informed strategies and a fierce belief that every teen can thrive.
I’m Janine — English teacher, former GCSE examiner, and the founder of The Exam Whisperer. For over three decades, I’ve helped students go from “I hate writing” to “I can do this.”
I have a First Class degree in English and a Master’s in Educational Management. I’ve taught in classrooms, led departments, and worked closely with exam boards — so I know exactly what GCSE success looks like.
But my path hasn’t always been traditional. For six years, I stepped out of teaching and became the Training Manager at the London Stock Exchange, coaching corporate managers on how to lead teams and run staff performance appraisals. That experience changed the way I teach — I came back sharper, more strategic, and obsessed with measurable progress.
For the past 15 years, I’ve been tutoring hundreds of students in Harpenden and online, specialising in helping students build confidence, master exam technique, and finally feel in control of English.
I also have ADHD. And that’s shaped everything I do.
I know what it’s like when your brain won’t cooperate. When you know the answer but forget the question. When writing feels like wading through treacle. That’s why I break things down. That’s why I build strategies that actually stick. That’s why I get results — especially with teens who’ve started to give up.
When you join this course, you’re not just getting a tutor. You’re getting a guide.
A guide who’s walked this path with thousands of students — and knows how to bring the best out of yours.

"The best students aren’t always the ones who are naturally brilliant at English — they’re the ones who are willing to learn. The ones who take the strategy, the framework, and the skills they’re taught, and use them with purpose. That’s how they reach their potential — and often, go far beyond it."

And here’s what I know for sure:You don’t need more lessons. You need the right support, delivered clearly, strategically, and in a way that builds belief as well as grades.
When you join my course, you’re not just getting access to live sessions and resources. You’re getting a guide who will walk beside you (and your teen) all the way to exam day — and make sure you don’t fall off track.
I’m the person in your inbox answering your questions. The one giving detailed feedback on every piece of homework. The one helping your teen silence the inner critic, unlock their voice, and feel like they can do this — because they can.
You don’t need to figure this out alone. I’ve got you.

❓Frequently Asked Questions
📅 What day and time are the sessions?
Live sessions take place on Thursdays at 6 PM (UK time).
Guided Writing Practice (GWP) sessions take place on Sundays at 11 AM.
💻 What if my teen can’t make Thursdays at 6 PM?
No problem. Every session is recorded and uploaded to the platform with interactive replays — so they can rewatch, pause, and revisit anytime.
✍ What is writing practice (WP)?
Each week, students are given a short Writing Practice (WP) task — about 15 minutes long — designed to embed the week’s strategy. I give detailed personal feedback on every submission. It’s not called “homework,” but it is a vital part of building confidence and exam skills.
🧠 What if my teen has slow processing or working memory issues?
This course is specifically designed to help. Everything is broken down into small, manageable chunks, and all sessions can be rewatched anytime. I also explain why we’re doing something, not just what — so it makes more sense, even for slower processors.
📚 Which exam board is this for?
The full programme is designed for AQA GCSE English Language. However, the Creative Writing and Persuasive Writing modules are also suitable for Edexcel and Edexcel IGCSE students. Those students will receive exam-board-specific questions and model answers, and stay with me until Christmas.
The comprehension modules (Paper 1 and Paper 2) are only suitable for AQA due to the differences in question format.
🎓 My child is in Year 9 — is this suitable?
Not yet. This course is tailored to students who are entering Year 10 or 11. Year 9s often aren’t developmentally ready for the exam strategies and analysis needed. It’s best to wait until they’re further along.
🏆 Is it suitable for students aiming for the highest grades?
Absolutely. The course helps students aiming for Grades 8–9 to deepen their analysis, sharpen their structure, and push for top-band marks. They’ll get high-level models, strategies, and feedback throughout.
🧩 What if my teen is working at a Grade 3 while others are at Grade 7 or above?
That’s totally fine. Everyone is working on the same strategies, but I provide feedback and support based on each student’s current ability. Students improve at their own pace — and I make sure no one feels left behind.
😓 My teen is really reluctant to do online tutoring. Will this work for him?
In my experience — yes. Reluctant teens often thrive once they realise how practical, helpful, and different this is to school.
It’s not passive. We work together, and that includes doing the Writing Practice (WP) — but once they feel the progress, they usually flourish.
My advice? Try it for a month and see.
🧠 My teen is neurodivergent and self-conscious on camera — is this a problem?
Not at all. Cameras can be on or off, and many students choose to leave them off until they feel comfortable. Sessions are welcoming, structured, and respectful — and I know how to support teens with ADHD, ASD, anxiety, or dyslexia.
👨👩👧 Can parents sit in too?
Yes, absolutely! Mums (and the odd Dad!) are very welcome. It can be incredibly helpful to know what your teen is learning and how best to support them. Many parents love seeing how strategies are taught — it gives them clarity and confidence too.
📈 How will I know how my teen is getting on?
At the end of each module, I provide a progress report outlining their strengths, gaps, and next steps — along with a marked assessment from a senior AQA examiner.
I’m also available via email throughout the week if you have questions or concerns.
📚 Do you offer one-to-one tutoring?
Yes — I offer limited one-to-one tutoring for an additional charge for my students nearer the exam season.
Additionally, I’m thrilled to be joined by a highly qualified, experienced teacher who will offer one-to-one sessions throughout the term as a separate service. This gives students the opportunity to get extra tailored support if needed.
📅 When do we get access to the course?
- The course officially begins in early September
- It’s currently under construction behind the scenes
- You’ll receive full access and logins at the start of term
📩 You’ll also receive a welcome email with everything you need
💳 What is the monthly membership plan and how does payment work?
This course runs as a monthly membership plan to give you flexibility. You pay £149 per month, which includes all lessons, resources, and support for that month.
Your first payment is taken at sign-up to secure your place and covers September. Your next payment is taken automatically on October 1st, and then monthly until the end of the course.
✅ Can I cancel if it’s not the right fit?
Yes — we keep things flexible:
• If you cancel before August 31st, we’ll refund your first payment in full.
• If you cancel any time during September, you won’t be charged for October.
• After the 1st of any month, that month’s payment becomes non-refundable, as full access and materials are released upfront.
You can cancel any time before the next billing cycle and won’t be charged again.
🗣 I still have more questions. Can I speak to you directly?
Absolutely. You can book a Zoom call with me to talk through everything — and you’re welcome to bring your teen too.
It’s important to me that it feels like the right fit for your family before you sign up.
